I was reading something that I thought was pretty groovy
about what's going on out there in outer space.
Seems that there is a solar system that "a younger twin" of
our own. It has it's own Jupiter, asteroid belt, and,
possibly, it's own Earth!
I think that is really cool.
The solar system is called Epsilon Eridani, and it's
sun is about 1/5 the age of our own. Which means that if there
is life dwelling somewhere out there in that system, it would be
on one of the closer planets, something that would be the
equivalent to our Mercury or Venus.
(It also happens to be where the home planet of Spock's
is.... I put that in there to make Dad happy.... OK, I'm done
with STAR TREK.)
Anyway, as I was happily reading this article, there was a
link to two polls:
Do you think that there could be life in the system of
Epsilon Eridani?
&
Do you think that there could possibly be life anywhere in
outer space?
That's where the 'WOW.... really?' comes in.
Five thousand people said no to the first poll and twenty
five hundred said no to the next answer.
I realize that everyone is entitled to their own opinion,
but... really? With all of the millions of unaccounted for
space up there, and the billions of solar systems and
galaxies... we are it?
Wouldn't that make our tiny planet kind of a mistake?
I mean, if we put that entire bunch together, that would be
one entire town that thinks that we are the only life in the
universe.
I was relieved to see that twenty one thousand people said
yes to both questions, but it makes me wonder....
Do the other people think that THE FLINTSTONES are a
documentary? That fluoride is an ooze from a whale's rear
end?
How arrogant would we have to be to think that we are the
only living life out there?
Wow.... really?
Oh, well. It I guess if it has only been known for four
hundred years that the Earth is round, and that the sun doesn't
revolve around us.... I guess it could take a little longer to
get people to open up to the idea that there could
be life... OUT THERE.... Chat Soon

P. S. How could Epsilon Eridani be Spock's home planet
is the Vulcan's are supposed to be an ancient race, yet that
system is younger than ou.... ignore that I said that, please.
